We've all been to events or activities where glass bottles of our favorite alcohol just wasn't convenient. Now the Rum and Coke doesn't have to wait! Pocket Shots are "grab and go" pouches that resemble miniature bottles. They come in five variteties of 80 proof alchohol including Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Aged Four Years, Imported Caribbean Gold Rum, Premium, Triple Distilled Vodka, London Dry Gin, and Especial Gold Tequila Imported from Mexico that are all available in 50ml "single serve flexible stand-up pouches".
Alcohol is a leading cause of death among youth, particularly teenagers. It contributes substantially to adolescent motor vehicle crashes, other traumatic injuries, suicide, date rape, and family and school problems.
Every day, on average, 11,318 American youth (12 to 20 years of age) try alcohol for the first time, compared with 6,488 for marijuana; 2,786 for cocaine; and 386 for heroin.
Alcohol is by far the most used and abused drug among America’s teenagers. According to a national survey, nearly one third (31.5%) of all high school students reported hazardous drinking (5+ drinks in one setting) during the 30 days preceding the survey.
Children who are drinking alcohol by 7th grade are more likely to report academic problems, substance use, and delinquent behavior in both middle school and high school. By young adulthood, early alcohol use was associated with employment problems, other substance abuse, and criminal and other violent behavior.
Young people who begin drinking before age 15 are four times more likely to develop alcoholism than those who begin drinking at 21.5
More than 1,700 college students in the U.S. are killed each year—about 4.65 a day—as a result of alcohol-related injuries.
Pocket Shots and alcopop-type products are rapidly becoming the product of choice for underage drinkers...

I'm not sure how convenient they are going to be for concerts and other venues where security is present. I imagine there will be long lines of people being told to turn out their pockets before they gain entry.

Agreed, to the above comment. It's nuisance enough, having to wait while my belongings are searched for glass, as a way to see if I am carrying alcohol. God, I can only imagine the wait if I also have to be searched for tiny concealable packets.
Also, as a mother, I object to the thought that my children might be able to buy an easily hidden shot of straight booze for $2.00

These are kind of silly -- I'll stick with my flask.
Oh and Gayle...RELAX !

Gayle, anonymous mother:
You do realize that this is essentially a ziplock bag with booze in it - it's not some revolutionarily new substance here.
People could always do this themselves; or someone could whip up some of these in their basement and sell 'em to young people if they wanted to. this is just ever so slightly more convenient

Gayle, do you realize that over 90% of the accidents on the highways are caused by SOBER people?
It is these uptight drivers that are causing all of the problems and deaths on the highways.
The Columbine kids? Sober.
Amish School Shootings? Sober.
9/11? Sober.
Bin Laden? Sober.
I thinky you need to clean house and take care of you sober people before you start picking on us drunks.

Education is everything. Teach your kids about drinking, and stop being a hypocrite. Dont blame industy when your child gets drunk off your stash and you cant face responsibility. Pocket shots are a GREAT idea! I am a 29 year old man who loves to canoe down rivers. A nice shot of whiskey at my campsite is everything I could ask for, especially if I wouldn't have to bring a whole fifth.;)

If you like the "Pocket Shot" idea but want to drink your own specific brand of liquor, check out www.disposableflasks.com. The site offers a compact, durable and collapsible flask that holds 7.5 fl. oz. (or 5 shots). Great for those who like to bring your own booze to events or on the golf course but don't want the hassles of a large glass bottle or a bulky metal flask.

You still have to be 21 to buy the damn things... so put more emphasis on monitoring your under-21 kids or helping them choose good friends rather than placing the blame on the makers.
